The Generative AI Permissions Protocol (GAPP) is a research protocol that gives content owners a machine-readable way to express whether they permit generative AI transformation of published images. GAPP encodes a durable, visually unobtrusive protective signal directly into the image, allowing participating AI systems to detect and respect that choice before generating an output. It does not restrict viewing, downloading, sharing, or human creativity, and it does not carry identity, ownership, provenance, or other rich metadata.

ORSG (ORSG.io) is an independent project team exploring technical safeguards for emerging digital and AI systems. We focus on practical mechanisms that can help technology recognise and respect the choices, boundaries, and intent of the people and organisations it affects.

GAPP is a research project by ORSG. ORSG is not currently an incorporated company or startup. It is the project identity used to organise, develop, and share the research, prototypes, and documentation behind GAPP. We not affiliated with, endorsed by, or associated with any company, institution, organisation, product, or technical system unless explicitly stated. Any similarity between the ORSG name, branding, or terminology and that of another entity is coincidental.
